Concept The Modern Panic exhibitions are inspired by the work of the original Panic Movement, which was comprised of artists Alejandro Jodorowsky, Fernando Arrabal and Roland Topor, who created provocative live arts events in France during 1960s. The works intended aim was to slice through the bourgeois art world with the aim to be a catalyst towards liberation of thought within the viewer. Modern Panic follows in the footsteps of this movement and exhibits the new wave of panic artists.
Modern Panic, an annual exhibition of surreal, controversial and provocative art curated by Guerilla Zoo founder James Elphick, is reincarnated in 2018 for Modern Panic IX. Bringing together over 70 visual artists and live art practitioners offering a commentary on our chaotic contemporary world and the darker reaches of human nature with works that shock, disturb and confront.

Since the late ’40s the fine line between the body and the information begins to lose intensity. Large scientific projects promise to extract information from the human body and use engineering genetics for practical applications. Sociologist Manuel Castells talks about a city and a society as an information network. The body becomes a matrix of data, emotionally encapsulated, defragmented and decorporalized, in a constant flow of fake memories and super sensorial experimentation. Extracorporeal digital age is a reality that requires a matrix of information to replicate itself over and over again. Who are you in this environment and how do you deal with it? We are interested in promoting dance films (short and long, fictional and documentaries), video and digital installations, talks and lectures that have a strong opinion on the way the body adapts to the era of informational chaos.
EXHIBITION, LECTURES & PERFORMANCES
9 – 13 NOV @ GALATECA GALLERY
The body is a matrix of data, emotionally encapsulated, defragmented and disembodied, in a constant flow of fake memories and super sensorial experimentation. Extracorporeal digital age is a reality that requires a network of information to replicate itself over and over again. Who are you in this environment and how do you deal with it?
Artists from Germany, Italy, Finland, Great Britain and Austria present their research and digital artworks, challenging both the cognitive and the emotional system of the audience. Nine works of video art, robotics, animation, sound engineering and live performance are playfully exhibited in the futuristic space of Galateca Gallery.
